Budgeting for Unexpected Wedding Costs

There’s no way around it, vendor costs add up.  Avoid unexpected costs by budgeting accordingly and avoiding these potential surprises.

Postage – how much does a stamp cost?  If you can’t remember the last time you mailed something, as of 2017 it’s 49 cents.  Before you splurge on hand-crafted, calligraphy invitations, remember you still have to mail them, and factor in this cost.

Transportation – often overlooked, transportation costs can add up.  Depending on the location for your ceremony, reception, and the hotel, you may have to provide transportation for your guests.  Compare the costs of parking, cabs, and other options like party buses ahead of time to see what works best for your plans.

Vendor Meals – yes, your caterers and any on-site help (like florists and wedding planners) will need to eat too.  WeddingWire estimates that the cost of vendor meals can range anywhere from $25-$35 to $50-$85.

Overtime Charges – beware of overtime scenarios and plan ahead.  Timing can be tricky, and some overtime costs may occur.  An extra hour of photos can cost as much as $300 per additional hours according to a top-rated wedding videographer in New York City.  Venues can also charge if the event runs after the allotted time.  Keep a cushion in your budget just in case!

When setting up your wedding budget, be realistic and be flexible.  Unexpected costs like gratuities and weather-related expenses will add up fast.  Break out your spreadsheet and do some math.  It will pay off on the big day!
